Graduated from Westwood High School (Austin, Texas) in 2007 and the University of Texas at Austin, where he pledged with Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and was a member of The Friar Society.
Powell was an All-State Lacrosse player in Texas.

Powell has a pet Capuchin monkey named "Charlie".
Powell has worked with Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Banderas twice in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003) and The Expendables 3 (2014).
Powell is of Polish (father) and British Isles (mother) descent. "Chutsky" is his father's family's surname. Coincidentally, he played Sergeant Dylan Chutsky in Sand Castle (2017).
