Dia Karachi Premiere
Join us for the public premiere of our short film, "Dia"
After having it's World Premiere at the 71st Locarno Film Festival, Dia has screened in London, Torino, Riga, Batumi, Bucharest, Jaipur, Vancouver & Dhaka. Described as "SHOCKING" and "PERFECTION" it is now coming to Karachi as part of the British Council Library's Film Club screenings.
Hamza Bangash’s psychological thriller, Dia is a thought provoking story about a vulnerable and troubled young woman whose life is on a downward spiral as she struggles with a mental illness. Based on a true story, this newly released film is a take on the stigma and discrimination that’s still attached to mental health problems in our society.
Mariam is a sensitive law student preparing for her final year exams. She lives with her overbearing mother and younger brother in a middle class neighbourhood in Karachi. As Mariam’s exams draw nearer, her mother urges her to consider an arranged marriage. Mariam, who is in a secret relationship online, refuses. With the clock ticking, her romance takes a dark twist, revealing the extremes that Mariam will go to keep her relationship alive.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the cast of Dia and the filmmaker himself! Join us for an engaging discussion with Hamza Bangash and actors Nida Khan and Bakhtawar Mazhar who will talk about the making of the film, the intriguing characters and about mental health in our society.
