ABOUT DEVI:
Devi (Goddess) is an exploration of the Sufi saying, ‘Death before you die.’ It is performed by three artists with three very different forms of expression: experimental movement, Bharatnatyam dance and live vocals and music. 

Devi is the story of Hajra who is on a journey to shed the past. Kali, the Goddess of Death, is always by her side, waiting patiently. Death is the portal through which Hajra can move towards her higher self, represented by the melodious voice of the Falcon. However as Hajra discovers, when one layer comes off, it reveals many more underneath.

ABOUT STUDIO J:
Studio J Dance was established in 2016 by Jaya Karan in Melbourne. It specializes in Indian dance and art forms. Studio J encourages not only the commercial styles of dance but also boasts the only studio offering rare indigenous Indian dance forms such as Kalaripayattu and Mohiniyattam. It is also an intimate theatre space, hosting plays, discussions and artist residencies.
