WXI : The First Match & Celebrations
Ever since the Zimbabwean cricket team toured to Pakistan in 2015 and Pakistan Cricket Board had been able to inaugurate a PSL final at Lahore in 2017, we heard a lot of buzz about international cricket being ‘revived’ in Pakistan, after the PSL final it was told that numerous officials for various cricket boards of the world had an eye on the final of Pakistan Super League, which held successfully amidst tight security measures at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Chairman PCB & CEO PSL Mr. Najam Sethi had put various endeavors trying to persuade friendly cricket nations to exhibit action at Pakistan’s home soil, in which ICC and a plenty of third party officials were the stake holders. It was just a few months back when Sethi unveiled that a World XI would be touring to Pakistan consisting of renowned international stars in mid September this year, it had only been called a rumor until it was bricked by officials that the tour is really happening.
In a press release PCB confirmed the allegedly rumors and it was announced that a W XI would really be coming under the captaincy of Protea star Faf Du Plessis along with 13 men squad namely David Miller, Morne Morkel, Tim Paine, Thisara Perera, Imran Tahir, Darren Sammy, Hashim Amla, Grant Elliott, Samuel Badree, George Bailey, Tamim Iqbal, Paul Collingwood, Ben Cutting.
The matches were labeled to be held in ‘Safe City’ Lahore, Gaddafi again being the host, the dates were announced as 12, 13 and 15 of September, series consisting of 3 T20 Internationals, unlike the last Zimbabwean tour, ICC showed interest in the project and would be sending their security squad to examine the arrangements for forthcoming tours of other cricketing nations if the WXI tour meets success.
What To Gain?
Right after the announcement of WXI squad, Sri Lanka has also shown immense interest in playing a T20 international of the upcoming series with Pakistan in Lahore if WXI is successful, Haroon Logart Of Cricket South Africa has also shown bright chances of South African team touring Pakistan if scenes look affirmative
Amidst great fan hype and hopes the 1st of the 3 T20 internationals have taken place in the veteran venue of Gaddafi and Pakistan has clinched an easy triumph defeating the visitors by 20 runs. All day it was buzzing with the media and fans were raving to the venue, it was the scenes of desi traditional wedding. Celebrations and tight security were parallel and everything was right at the place, visitors were brought to the ground of Pakistani traditional classic rickshaws, and had taken a ride around the ground, experiencing something they had never before, Imran Tahir had performed against Pakistan in Lahore for the 1st time, Lahore being his native place. Being Tuesday the stadium wasn’t that much of a jammed arena but as the series grows it’s positively expected that more people would rush to witness the history being created. Cricket won and it’s time for the world to acknowledge that we’re as capable of hosting international contests as any other contemporary cricketing nation. Cricket Ki Halalala!
