Mian Biwi Aur Wagah: A Ground-breaking Theater Performance You Will Never Forget

Mian Biwi aur Wagah

If you’re a lover of Urdu theater, plays and the lost tradition of letter-writing, let us tell you that you can get all that in one show. Yes, you heard that right. Mian Biwi aur Wagah (Translation: Husband, Wife and the Wagah Border) is a play that brings a memorable homecoming experience for the lovers of Urdu theater and letter-writing. It’s the first one of Middle East’s original production to go international. It has been deemed so incredibly written that it has had eight successful plays performed all over Dubai and new Delhi. And now it’s coming to the city of lights, Karachi!

The play is said to take you on a journey to memory lane, followed by an incredible story of a wife and husband journalist duo. It will take you on a roller coaster ride to experience different sets of emotions and the play will address different issues socio-political conditions, transcending borders and the divided lives of rural and urban people. It’s incredible and we can’t wait! If you don’t believe us, check out the promotional video for yourself:

In the early days where iphones and Skype didn’t even exist, telegraphic communication and letters were the main form of communication for long-distant people. Now there are rare people who still write letters and it’s amazing how the play is working to revive the lost joy of hand-written letters that modern technology can never give us. The story states the life of a wife and husband who are both journalists, one of them from Karachi (Pakistan) and the other Bihar (India). They are seen and heard writing letters to their relatives from all over the world, set in different cities, and these letters generate a wide range of emotions.

” Mian Biwi aur Wagah ” will present different journeys with ordinary exchanges, vivid images and impeccable conversations that will invite the audience to a heartwarming story filled with letter-writing. The production hopes to send a message to the young and current generation about the importance of reviving an art of soul-stirring conversations with paper and pen.

All letters staged are originally written and based on true stories and experiences that remain rooted in partition-seeped narratives. Beyond the obvious, the letters document stereotypes and idiosyncrasies of our times. The play will be performed in the Art Council Karachi on 31st of March and 1st of April 2018.
