Faiza Saleem -Breaking Stereotypes through Comedy
Making people laugh is one of the hardest tasks, and it becomes harder in Pakistan when you are a girl. Generally, we don’t see women choosing this fun profession here but, someone took a step to break this stereotype and guess what! she got successful.
It’s our favorite lawyer turned comic Faiza Saleem’s birthday and we’d like to share her story here today!
Faiza Saleem is one of those women who dare to stand out with their unique idea. She started her career as a lawyer but soon realized it wasn’t her cup of tea. Left it, and became a comedian instead!
Insane, righttt? since there are a very few who dare to listen to what their heart says.
Saleem has always wanted to make people laugh while breaking stereotypes and therefore chose to be a comedian. Not only she became a comedian, she also formed an all girl comedy troupe known as The Khawatoons. The name is taken from the Urdu word ‘khawateen’ which means women.
The brilliant khawateens of The Khawatoons hail from different backgrounds, age groups and walks of life who are together for the same cause- raising voice against issues like body shaming, gender stereotyping and sexism through theatre and comedy.
