Recently, a heart-wrecking news filled social media pages and new bulletins and shook not just Pakistan but India as well. The news of the eight-year-old Asifa Bano’s rape and murder has spread worldwide. asifa had gone missing for 8 eights prior to her murder during the mid January and was found dead the Hiranagar tehsil of Hindu-dominated Kathua district, according to the reports. The infant was lured in by 2 hindu men who later sedated her and brought her to a temple where they constantly raped the young girl. Among these criminals included one police officer who also abused her and pandith of the temple, who supervised and covered for the crime.
While the political tensions between Pakistan and India have always been on a raise, some people have taken it to the extreme. Moreover, instead of putting the vile criminals behind bars there has been a protest in support of the criminals – mainly because the victim was a Kashmiri Muslim. As disgusting as the reason sounds, the government has also left Asifa’s parents hopeless. Regardless, Bollywood celebrities have come together alongside the ones from Pakistan and raised their voice against the murders and are now demanding justice for asifa. It just goes to show that humanity is not restricted to borders.
Armeena Rana Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Sanjay Dutt are amongst many others addressed the crime through social media:
While each celebrity are their own person, some of them are parents as well who are just as horrified!
Muslim, Hindu, Sikh or Christian, a child is a child no matter what and it’s about time these villains realize this by going behind bars!
What’s more horrifying is that the leaders are quiet about this incident as if it was a good deed!
India or Pakistan, we should come together as humans and protect innocent children from becoming a victim but only if we fight together.
Twinkle Khanna spoke what many mothers are feeling right now.
These men are giving religion a bad name and are we going to let our children grow in this environment?
As Aditi said, they are monsters but we would be no less if we stay quiet.
No matter what religion, caste or color a child belongs to, murder is something that should not be attempted for any reason at all. A child is the future of a country and if we allow reckless crimes like this continue we might as well be monsters alongside the criminals. It’s food for thought.
