Pakistani supermodel Amna Babar has recently took her concern regarding misogyny to her Instagram account. That’s when she revealed the horrible incident that happened to her as she ran errands in her hometown Lahore yesterday. The post has now gotten viral on social media.
Yesterday Amna Baber shared that she got followed by three men who made obscene faces and gestures towards her and even called her names. They stalked her from the road into a mall where she had to pick up her mother from and things didn’t end there.
Although these men could only harass her from a sidewalk, a concept such as misogyny is nothing new in Pakistan. The number of incidents has been drastically increasing. From cat-calling to ridiculous harassment and stalking on the street, this concern is something that needs to be immediately addressed.
I am very disturbed and upset after what just took place I truly wonder what kind of society we live in ? I was driving home after running some errands to pick up my mom and these boys started making obscene faces started swearing at me and kept calling me names I was alone got scared as no one even tried to help me and went to pick up my mother and took her to the mall there I saw them again I took pictures of them and one of them showed me the middle finger and called me a badmash My mother got upset to and she took of one of her shoes these boys were then told by other people to run way Why do men feel the need to threaten women and girls when will this ever stop ???? Why do people just stand and watch why is this acceptable????
According to the post she shared on her Instagram, Amna was running some errands when this incident happened.
“I was driving home after running some errands to pick up my mom and these boys started making obscene faces started swearing at me and kept calling me names,” Babar wrote. “I was alone, got scared as no one even tried to help me and went to pick up my mother, and took her to the mall. There I saw them again, I took pictures of them and one of them showed me the middle finger and called me a badmash!”
Amna also shared how no one dared to help her even though the incident happened during broad daylight. It was only when her mother took an action that they ran away. The model expressed her concern regarding these type of incidents that women have to face:
“Why do men feel the need to threaten women and girls; when will this ever stop ?” She asked. “Why do people just stand and watch why is this acceptable?”
Indeed. This is something we’d like to ask as well.
